This Holiday

You can hear it all around you. The sound of the holiday, that is, and we're here to present one artist who deserves a listen. Josh Hoge, a native Tennessee musician who has collaborated with artists like Ne-Yo and Ryan Tedder of One Republic, released a holiday day album last year simply titled This Holiday. With a father and brother with a passion in music, it would only be time before Josh took the stage. Though he may seem low-key at the moment, we're sure his soulful sound will have many wishing for more! Josh Hoge sure has us in the holiday mood and we hope we can help put you in yours! Take a listen to his live performance below.

Shark in the Water

VV Brown has been stirring up quite some talk in the States as her song, Shark in the Water, has been catching on our airwaves. Stumbling upon opportunities to start a music career, this bright 27 year old declined placement in UK's top universities such as Oxford, King's College London, LSE and York. Talented as she is smart, VV wrote the music, played multiple instruments and produced her debut album, Travelling Like the Light, inspired by the 1950s and electronic music and sounds from Game Boy and Nintendo. She likes to refer her music as "indie doo-wop/musical mashed potatoes" as her sound is influenced from artists such as Ruth Brown, Elvis Presley and the game, Super Marioland. To complete her look, she opts for retro bangs and a-line dresses. Maybe her appearance in Vogue magazine (before making it big) or walking the runway for Naomi Campbell's charity fashion show had something to do with her style. Whether influence or not, VV's look and sound is undeniably in!

Fiesta of 1947

There's something special about these films that can't easily be replicated. The question remains of whether it was the culture of the years past or simply an elegance that came naturally for these actors. Either way, Cyd Charisse and Ricardo Montalban light up the stage as they perform the flaming flamenco in the film Fiesta (1947). Click below to view to dance!

A Story to Tell

When you're listening to Jason Mraz's music, you can tell that he's one person truly devoted to his passion. Words practically spill from his lips and intertwine perfectly with his trusty acoustic guitar, proving that an organic sound still can exist in today's electro-dance pop craze. The sounds of bossa nova, hip hop, jazz, pop and reggae inspired Jason at a young age and he soon acquired a mission- to tell his story with music. Shortly after finishing high school in Virginia, he moved to New York, where on the streets, he learned to play the acoustic. Playing gigs and selling out performances, he recorded his first album, Waiting for My Rocket to Come. With frequent tours and promotions he gathered a healthy fan base but it wasn't until his second album, Mr. A-Z, that he would achieve commercial success. Currently, Jason is on tour and has released a mini album titled Life is Good, recorded during his first few shows this year. Take a listen on his official website!

Chasing Rainbows

A talented yet troubled actress and singer, Judy Garland worked for forty-five of her forty-seven years of life. Being nominated and winning countless Academy Awards, Grammys and Tonys, Judy proved her worth on stage. It seemed like she never stopped working, always chasing after rainbows. In her 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz, it almost felt as if she did find a place where dreams really do come true. Somewhere Over the Rainbow is one song that should remain on the best of the best charts. Take a listen below and thanks for joining us for another Music Monday!

With another beautiful performance at yesterday's MTV Video Music Awards, audiences applauded her return to the stage. She's modified her makeup for this performance, looking more mature with inspiration from the 1930s. Gene Kelly and Mitzi Gaynor

Amazing duo, Gene Kelly and Mitzi Gaynor moves flawlessly around the set of red and white in the 1957 film, Les Girls. Rolling and sliding on black chairs and tables, Gene is faced with a not-so-friendly Mitzi. From moments of tension, the air eases as the two relieve their frustration through a number, carefully choreographed by Jack Cole. Though Les Girls has received mediocre reviews, we all have to agree that there is no error in dancing for these two performing veterans.

Colbie Caillat

L.A. based singer/songwriter Colbie Caillat is one beautiful soul. Her fresh approach to music caught the attention of Myspace fans and instantly, she was on her way to becoming a well recognized name in the music industry. Creating her own music was essential as her father, a music producer, told her that the greatest respect and appreciation comes from an artist who can both write and perform his or her work (aceshowbiz.com). Ever since her first single, Bubbly, aired on the radios, we were hooked. Take a listen to Fearless from her album, Breakthrough, available for download on all major music download stores.

Angel Taylor

Everything about Angel Taylor (her music, style and personality) encompasses the word sweetness. In her music video, Like You Do, the Southern Californian sings with her guitar in front of what seems like a locally hip cafe. Having debuted her album in March 2009 she already has worked with well known artists like Gavin DeGraw and Adele. We heart her wholesome, innocent lyrics and her super cute flower imprinted frocks. Norah Jones

We were quite impressed when Norah came out with her first hit, "Don't Know Why." The jazzy yet indie feel of her music caught our attention. Now after 8 years in the business, Norah proves that a woman can be as classy as she and succeed. With a new cropped hairdo and a wardrobe we approve of this updated look from her previous youthful long waved hair. Click on the video below to watch her "Chasing Pirates" music video.
